We open to an aerial view of New York, where people go to tailgate in moving cars. Is that a good thing? I don’t know I haven’t seen Moulin Rouge either (there are a lot of things in this life I have not experienced). ![]() It definitely shows in the trailer the bright colors, modern music, sweeping shots, and party atmosphere definitely hark back to the latter film. This film is a nerd paradise.Īnd this paradise is directed by Baz Luhrmann, the man who directed Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge. And Gatsby’s love interest, Daisy Buchanan, is played by Carey Mulligan, a woman who is best known for her roles in Pride and Prejudice, Drive, and, most importantly, the Doctor Who episode “Blink.” So we have Dom Cobb, Spider-Man, and Sally Sparrow all in one movie. Costarring as Nick Carraway is Tobey Maguire, most famous for his role as Spider-Man. So who stars in this movie? We have Leonardo DiCaprio in the titular role, bringing experience from such films as Titanic, Inception, and Shutter Island. (To follow along, go to YouTube and watch The Great Gatsby (2013) – Official Trailer. But is the movie it advertises worth your time, or should you just read the book? Well, as an English major, I’m supposed to say that the book is always better, but let’s put that bias behind us and judge this movie solely based on the trailer. Apart from the literature connection, it’s loud, flashy, and full of unique character. Needless to say, the trailer caught my attention. ![]() What is happening soon is the arrival of the film adaptation in theaters. It’s just that I haven’t gotten around to reading it, and with the backlog of unread books on my shelves right now, I wouldn’t anticipate it happening anytime soon. It’s not that I don’t care about the book I’ve always been curious about it, if only to get the references Snoopy keeps making to it. Yet another firework dragon on this list, as at the end of the display a dragon appears out of the bright orange and red flames of the other fireworks, which provides both a phenomenal bonfire night display and does everyone a favour by chasing out Professor Umbridge (no one really liked her, did they?).Confession time: even though I’m an English major, I’ve never read F. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends stand right next to the tiny explosions, confused as you’d expect, but in wonder at their exam cut short and the continuous antics of the Weasley twins. The fireworks are beautiful and better than that, they are absolutely tiny. Once Professor Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) opens the doors to the hall, in come Fred and George Weasley (James A Eric and Oliver M.J Phelps) on their brooms, once again with the intention to cause chaos. Indoor fireworks may seem a bad idea in you muggle house, but at Hogwarts anything is possible.ĭuring an exam students are taking, everyone suddenly stops as they can all hear a noise coming from outside the great hall. If this film doesn’t scream bonfire night, we’re not sure what does. This scene is brilliant on any day of the year, but for Bonfire night it’s a perfect accompaniment to a relaxing evening in The Shire watching the fireworks. The firework in question sparks up a massive dragon who sweeps the sky and terrifies all the hobbits below except one, Mr Bilbo Baggins.īilbo lacks surprise when the gigantic firework dragon flies across the sky and barrels into a beautiful explosion of colour and celebration, leaving many of the pint-sized guests in confusion and awe. While Bilbo’s firework show is in full swing and the beautiful explosions light up the sky of Hobbiton, Merry and Pippin decide to poke around find one of Gandalf’s (Ian McKellen) fireworks. When Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm) celebrates his “one hundred and eleventh” birthday – his festivities involve the likes of drink, plentiful food and the antics of Merry and Pippin (Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd), two young Hobbits who share a love for causing chaos. ![]()
